| What is IrisWall?
IrisWall is a full height movable wall system manufactured by Environmental Wall Systems (EWS) that offers a cost effective, environmentally friendly alternative to drywall construction. Unlike drywall, IrisWall panels are movable and reusable. Panels can be installed for one office configuration and later taken down for a new reconfiguration. You save money everytime you reuse your IrisWall panels. Once the IrisWall system is fully installed, you will enjoy more privacy than standard drywall (STC Rating of 40). Where can IrisWall be used? IrisWall is a replacement for drywall so you can use the IrisWall system in almost any place you would install drywall. Common applications of IrisWall are offices, conference rooms, classrooms, warehouses and modular buildings. How is IrisWall installed into a building? In most cases, IrisWall clips into the ceiling grid. A ceiling grid clip holds up IrisWall ceiling track. Installers plumb down from the ceiling track to the floor and install a floor track which is fixed in place by carpet grippers or double-sided tape. Panels are installed into the ceiling track and floor track and sealed together by a feature strip that locks the panels in place. A rubber base then snaps into the floor track adding a finished base. Note that IrisWall can accomodate any ceiling type including drywall ceilings with no ceiling grid. Can the panels be easily knocked out of place? No. IrisWall is sturdier than drywall. Extreme force would be required to knock a panel out of place. Will the panels damage the ceiling grid? No. The floor supports the panel weight, not the ceiling grid. Does IrisWall come with Door Units? Yes. EWS can supply door frames and doors. In some cases, customer’s like to use their own door units and frames. For that situation, EWS simply provides panels with door frame cutouts so that customers can install their own frames and doors. How does IrisWall accomodate Electrical outlets and Data connections in the panels? EWS ships panels that are pre-wired with electrical outlets and data connections. Electrial whips run through a race way inside the panel to the ceiling or down to the floor based on your specifications. An electrician then simply runs the electrical wiring through the ceiling or floor to the J-box to connect the wiring. What finishes are available on the IrisWall Panels? IrisWall panels can be manufactured with any finish you specify including vinyl, glass, frosted glass, paint, fabric, markerboard, tackboard, and wood veneer. You specify what finish you would like when placing your order. What is the height, width, and thickness of the IrisWall panels? IrisWall panels can come in any height you require and any width less than 48”. Each panel is 2 5/8” thick. Listed below are the standard specs: Standard Width = 48”, 36”, 24”, 12”, and 6” Each panel is equipped with leveler legs that allow installers to adjust the height by up to three inches vertically. Panels can also be cut at the job site by a common circular saw to a non-standard width. The cut panel would then be installed where the system meets a wall. A finished end piece, which ships with all orders, would cover the side of the panel that was cut giving a finished look to the system. The wall and the adjacent panel would level the cut panel inside the finished end. How does it save us money? IrisWall offers many ways to save money. First, our panels are classified as furniture by the IRS which allows you to depreciate the panels over 7 years as opposed to 30 years. You realize an instant tax savings. Second, for drywall construction, you have to hire 5 different crews to take down the old drywall, clean up the waste, install new drywall, paint, wire, and clean up the mess for the new walls. IrisWall installations and re-installations are faster than standard drywall saving you money on labor costs. The average time it takes to install 10 feet of drywall is over 3 hours. The average time it takes to install 10 feet of IrisWall is less than 1 hours saving you over 66% on you labor costs. Third, panels are already finished so no painting or finishing is required when moving the panels. Fourth, panels are pre-wired so connecting them to a junction box is extremely simple. You save money on the cost of an electrician because the electrician doesn’t have to re-wire the walls as they would with drywall. The few hours required by an electrican is to hook up the electrical whips coming out of the panels to the J-box. Fifth, the IrisWall system does not screw into or nail into your building at all. Therefore, when you take the panels down, there is no repair work to the building. There is no need to replace carpets. What is the product lead time for orders? 4-6 weeks.
